Alabama high school teachers face criminal charges

Two teachers at a Calhoun County high school have resigned their positions after accusations of inappropriate contact with students. The two teachers have been charged with a variety of infractions, and both have court dates set for the end of April. It is unclear whether either man has retained criminal defense counsel ahead of these dates.

According to a report filed by the principal of the school, faculty was approached by a student and told that two teachers, both male and aged 27 and 23, were acting inappropriately with other students. The principal notified police, who launched an investigation including interviews of students and witnesses. Both men were summarily taken into custody.

The 27-year-old faces charges of deviant sexual intercourse with a student, as well as sexual contact with a student under 19. He is being held against a $22,500 bond. The younger teacher faces charges of sexual contact, sending nude photos and distributing obscene material. He is facing a bond of $13,500. The school superintendent confirmed that both men had voluntarily stepped down from their positions at the school.
