A man is facing serious charges and is being held by police following the discovery of a body in the Escabia County woods. Alabama authorities local to the area arrested the man after finding a human body in the brush. The investigation is ongoing at this time, and the accused man will now have to turn his focus to his criminal defense.
According to the report, investigators with the Atmore Police Department responded to the area around Nokomis after a possible homicide was reported. Throughout the course of the evening of Sept. 3, investigators combed the area, interviewing locals and executing search warrants. An extensive search of local wooded areas led to the discovery of the body.
Little information is being reported about the unidentified corpse, whose identity will be released after a forensic analysis can be made to determine that identity. Next of kin will be contacted at that time. The accused man is now facing a homicide charge and is in police custody against a $1,000,000 bond. Police have asked the support of the community in their ongoing investigation.
In a homicide case, the stakes are very high — an accused person found guilty of murder can face serious jail time. However, the burden of proof rests with Alabama prosecutors who must provide compelling evidence of the man’s involvement in the murder if he is to be convicted. In the meantime, his criminal defense representation will work tirelessly to build a strong defense against the charges, carefully reviewing any and all evidence brought forth by the prosecution.
