Alabama police officer faces charges for alleged drug crimes

On Behalf of | Jun 23, 2021 | Drug Crimes |

An officer in Pell City is facing charges that could end his career in law enforcement, according to local sources. The 44-year-old is an officer in St. Clair County, Alabama, where he is currently on administrative leave following accusations of drug crimes. The man has refused to comment to the press and is likely focused on preparing his criminal defense.

What are the allegations?

According to the St. Clair County Drug Enforcement Unit, an extensive investigation was being conducted into the officer’s alleged activities prior to his arrest. Representatives of the department did not include details of this investigation, though it is likely to have included surveillance and other methods.

The man faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and two charges of distribution of a controlled substance. He was placed in custody for approximately an hour before being released on $75,000 bail. No court date has been announced at this time, though an internal investigation is still being conducted.

Seeking legal support when facing drug charges

If the officer is found guilty of drug crimes, he could lose his job, not to mention his freedom. While drug crimes carry a harsh penalty for anyone in Alabama, even the accusation can negatively influence the life and career of a law enforcement officer. This is why he, like anyone else so charged, will be represented in criminal court by an attorney who will build a defense on his behalf against all charges filed against him.
