2 facing charges for drug crimes in Alabama

Two people in Moulton have been arrested on suspicion of multiple drug crimes following a routine traffic stop on June 12, according to local law enforcement. Police in the Alabama town arrested a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman for potential drug crimes. If they are found guilty, they could both spend time in jail. For the moment, it is unclear whether either of them have retained defense counsel.

What were the alleged actions of the individuals involved?

According to the report, it appears an officer pulled over the couple’s vehicle for not having a displayed license tag. At this point, the officer discovered the man was driving with a suspended license and also had an outstanding charge from a different agency. The officer radioed for backup, and another officer and K9 unit were dispatched to the scene.

The K9 dog detected drugs in the vehicle, so the couple were searched by police. They were subsequently arrested. The man faces five counts of possession of a controlled substance as well as three other misdemeanors. The woman was found to be in possession of what police believe to be methamphetamine, so she is charged with seven counts of possession of a controlled substance as well.

Seeking help and support when facing criminal charges

If either individual is found guilty of the myriad drug crimes of which they have been accused, they could face fines and/or jail time. This is why they will be individually represented in an Alabama court by a criminal defense attorney who will work to understand all the facts of the case. This includes going over any evidence the prosecution wishes to bring before the court, including the details of the search of the couple’s vehicle. If police are found to have violated the rights of either individual, the case could be thrown out altogether.
