A 52-year-old man is in custody following a police chase that ended in his arrest, according to local sources. The Alabama man was arrested following what law enforcement authorities described as a failed traffic stop that resulted in a pursuit. The man faces multiple charges, including drug crimes, and if he is found guilty, he could face considerable jail time. The man is currently booked into a detention facility in Montgomery County pending a trial date, which has not been publicly announced.
What are the alleged details?
According to the report, state troopers attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle traveling on Interstate 65 around 8 a.m. the morning of April 19. The driver reportedly attempted to escape, exiting the highway in Montgomery. The man is said to have fled his vehicle on foot before being pursued and taken into custody by police. The man apparently surrendered without further incident.
A search of the man and/or his vehicle appears to have revealed what police say were considerable amounts of drugs including cocaine and marijuana, as well as a firearm. The man stands charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana and of controlled substances, and certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol. He also faces charges of reckless endangerment and attempting to elude police.
The aftermath of these type of charges
Of course, these charges are all very serious in nature, particularly the drug crimes of trafficking and possession. In Alabama, the man could see years in prison if he is found guilty of these crimes, which is why he will be represented in court by an experienced criminal defense attorney. This attorney’s job is to carefully review the facts of his or her client’s case, in an effort to see the charges reduced or dropped altogether.
