Thinking of friends and family

Today, due to circumstances beyond human control, many people in the Wetumpka community are in need. After being informed of the tornado that hit over the weekend, I have been both shocked and grateful that no serious injuries or deaths have occurred. For that, I thank the Lord and our first responders for their professionalism and skill.

My family and I made Wetumpka home many hears ago. This is our hometown, and the people impacted are our friends-or dare I say family. In times of crisis, Americans tend to pull together. I do not expect the devastation caused by the tornados over the weekend to be any different. As someone who has previously been displaced by natural disasters, the losses these families are suffering hit too close to my heart. From what we can see, the community is pulling together. If you are able to help, whether that be resources, time or donations, contact the Wetumpka City Government. Shuttle services are currently being utilized to get volunteers into the areas most impacted. A few charity organizations have been specifically set up to help people attempting to make a cash donation. While immediate needs are easy to assess, long term needs tend to be buried in our collective conscience as time goes on. The folks impacted the most by this tornado will need continuing assistance for the foreseeable future. As someone who previously lost it all due to a natural disaster, I can tell you I was appreciative of each and every person who took the time out of their day to help.
